The incident raises questions about Bulgaria's ability to detect and prevent unauthorized airspace incursions, particularly as the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate.

The drone, a Maya decoy aircraft used by Ukrainian forces to activate and deceive enemy drone systems, exploded in a sunflower field near the village of Kardam, just 100 meters from a border checkpoint with Romania.
