They are not just dealing with drought or heatwaves; they’re also facing unprecedented temperature records that cause plants to become stressed and die. Building on-farm reservoirs as a solution is being touted, but it’s not a silver bullet. Paul Tompkins, deputy president of the National Farmers’ Union, warns that these reservoirs may run out of supply in August, exacerbating the problem.
